Cancellation Policy:

If you cancel your holiday the following penalties apply.

Up to 60 days prior - loss of deposit

60 days to start of holiday 100%

INSURANCE

You must have your own Insurance coverage, which is not included in our travel packages.

The Travel agent, who sells you the airfares, should be able to help you in this.

The following insurance coverage are recommended :

TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE

Trip Cancellation Insurance covers you in case you are forced to cancel your holiday because of emergency reasons. The reasons which are covered include illness, accident, death in the family, illness in the family, quarantine, being called to jury duty and missing a holiday because of flights being cancelled due to bad weather. For full details on this you should read the policy.

This insurance is optional but we recommend that you purchase it if you do not already have insurance. Some travelers have it already as a benefit with their credit card or their employment. If you wish to purchase it you must do so when you pay a deposit on a trip. The price depends on the cost of your trip, your age and the length of your stay outside the country. Ask for a quote when you book your trip.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL INSURANCE

We ask that every participant on a walking holiday have medical coverage while away from home. If you do not already have this already as a benefit of your employment or your credit card please ask us for a quote. Price depends on your age and the number of days you are out of the country. If you are Canadian this insurance offers unlimited emergency medical cover. If you are an American resident we suggest you purchase medical insurance from a US insurer. We can recommend several insurance companies.

How many people are in the groups?

The ideal number is about 12. Each holiday requires a minimum number of participants and we reserve the right to cancel any holiday if we do not have this number 60 days prior to the start. If a holiday is cancelled by us due to low number of participants, any deposits on that holiday will be refunded in full. We suggest that you do not purchase non-refundable air tickets until the minimum number of participants has been reached. Check with us before making your travel arrangements.

If the tour is cancelled by us at the last minute, we will have the option to buy you a real luxury private tour at no expense to you. A private tour means it will be you and a dedicated local tour guide and driver. It will be an expensive tour but this VIP treatment tour will be on our expenses. For example, in October 2004 we had a Great Wall Hiking tour with eight people signed up. A week before departure the leader of this group of six people was told by her doctor that she had cancer. Thus, this group of six decided to cancel their tour. I provided a private tour to the rest of these two participants ( because it was the last minute and they had already paid their airfares and preparations). The following are the letters from these two participants, Scott and Brent :

I am writing at the end of our second day on the tour. Thank you for your message - everything is going well - and there was no problem getting in touch with Steve. Thank you for continuing the tour even tho you had the cancelations. I was a little disappointed that there weren't a few more people, but I think our group will have a very good time.

First of all, thank you very much for honoring your commitment to me despite the associated financial ramifications. I think it says a lot about your integrity. Also, I really enjoyed meeting and hanging out with Steve and Yang Lei. Steve was very knowledgeable and patiently explained (and spelled!) everything for us. Yang Lei was very amicable. One suggestion I have is to maybe offer a one week hiking tour in addition to the two week hiking tour for people who may want a more condensed vacation. Overall, I would recommend your company and Great Wall tour to anyone.
